Books make the best gifts. I may be a little biased, but I love giving books as gifts. I think they offer a personal connection. You are either saying, I loved this book and I think you will too. Or, I know you love cats, science, history, etc so I thought this would be a great book for you. It means you have listened to them when they have shared something with you and that you took the time to notice.
I love finding bookish gifts for all my book-loving friends. I wanted to share with you a small online business that has some great ideas for that classic book lover on your gift list.
Melissa is the owner and creator of the website and online store, Literary Book Gifts. Melissa offers men’s and women’s t-shirts and tote bags representing our favorite classic novels and love for all things reading. I was curious how Melissa started her business and asked her.
I started the online store earlier this year in hopes of promoting titles and authors that were well-loved but often too obscure to find in your local mall or bookstore. I’ve been doing graphic design for as long as I can remember, and reading even longer than that. Classic novels have always been there for me, as they have been for so many others throughout the decades and centuries since their publication.
I started with a few designs and a desire to have them showcased in everyday life. Books, eBooks, and audiobooks are great platforms for personal reading but for sharing and discussion it’s often hard to get the ideas off of the page. Wearing a book t-shirt is a great way to tell the world your personal likes and dislikes in a subtle way. Who knows maybe you will get into a discussion with a fellow Jane Austen fan.
I love that Melissa’s love of reading and her background in design helped her to start her own company. I love supporting small businesses and a fellow reader! I was curious what Melissa’s favorite books are and what she is reading now.
I love classics and Moby Dick by Herman Melville is one that I keep coming back to. I am a big fan of contemporary novels as well and right now I am reading Wise Blood by Flannery O’Connor and The Adventures of Augie March by Saul Bellow. I highly recommend both of these titles on both paperback as well as on audiobook. My personal favorite contemporary series is definitely Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know Melissa a little bit. Now I want to tell you about her awesome shop, Literary Book Gifts.
Melissa focuses on bringing books to life on shirts and tote bags. Every shirt comes in various colors and in men’s and women’s sizing. The tote bags also come in three different sizes. The collection includes designs ranging from Jane Austen to Edgar Allan Poe to The Velveteen Rabbit to The Wizard of Oz and numerous other classic favorites.
Some of my favorites from the site include this “The End” book shirt in women’s fit. This shirt comes in various colors.
The cool Dracula shirt jumped out at me. I’ve never read Dracula, but I still think this shirt is a standout.
The Jungle Book is a classic story and this shirt featuring Bagheera is very cool. Again this comes in various colors. This particular one shows the men’s sizing.
I love Little Women and this shirt would be perfect for the fan of that book or especially the movie since a new version has just recently arrived in theaters. This one shows the women’s sizing and again it comes in various colors.
For your friend who dreams of being the next best-selling novelist, check out this classic typewriter tote bag. Get it in a size big enough for her computer or smaller to fit her iPad and a book.
When our kids were little, I kept a dedicated bag for all our library books so they wouldn’t get mixed in with our personal books on the shelves. This Velveteen Rabbit tote bag would be perfect for carrying books back and forth from the library.
These are just a few of my favorite choices from the site, but there is so much more. I can’t think of a better gift to give your bookish friend or family member. To make it extra special for you, I have a promotional code for 20% off anything in the store, no minimum. Use code SINCERELYSTACIE20.
