Colors and First Words

Introducing toddlers to colors is one of the earliest things we begin to teach our children. Some of those first books that taught colors were favorites of our children and this one would have ranked up at the top. Judith Drews uses the cutest illustrations to feature the first colors and words that kids would be interested in. Her illustrations are soft, crayon drawings and remind me of doodles in a notebook.
I appreciate the author’s use of the obvious items but also unique ones that she chose to highlight the colors, from a red car to a brown eye to a black rain cloud to white briefs (undies). She also includes numbers on the pages in that page’s color. The words under each picture remind me of the Richard Scarry books that were a favorite during my childhood. Kids will begin to learn words and repeat them along with the colors as they start looking through the book on their own. Judith Drews’ enthusiastic drawings and fun spirit will make reading and learning colors fun for parents and kids.
