Marlon Bundo is the Bunny of the United States, otherwise known as BOTUS. He lives with the Vice-President and the Second Lady, Mike and Karen Pence, his “grandparents”. Their daughter, Charlotte, is the owner and author of this series featuring Marlon Bundo teaching kids about Washington DC and the political life.
See my review of MARLON BUNDO’S A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT, HERE.
Marlon Bundo starts by saying “The Pledge of Allegiance”. He then uses the words in the pledge to show the important places in Washington DC that help us learn about the words like liberty, justice, and republic. Marlon takes us to the Supreme Court, the Kennedy Center, Vietnam War Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery to name a few. Marlon Bundo explains why each of these is an important place to visit and learn about.
Each page has gorgeous watercolor illustrations of these well-known places to visit in our nation’s capital. Marlon Bundo is also visiting all these locations in the pictures as well.
At the end of the book, each of the locations is described with a bit more detail about its purpose and history. This is a great book to read with your kids before a trip to Washington DC or if you want them to understand what “The Pledge of Allegiance” means. In the elementary school where I teach, each classroom starts the day by saying the pledge. This book would be a great way to introduce the importance of the words in the pledge and their meaning. If you’d like, you can even follow the real Marlon Bundo on his very own Instagram account.
