All summer I’ll be sharing books for kids of all ages on topics that will interest them or offer them a new interest to learn about. Most of the time these will be nonfiction books, but sometimes we can learn how to be better people or learn empathy from fictional stories too.
So, I hope you will stay tuned to these posts. They will always have Summer Read-to-Learn in the title and in the tags. There will be books from some of my favorite publishers like National Geographic, plus, some from independent publishers.
THE STORY OF COUNTRY
By: Lindsey Sagar
Published: May 19, 2020
Publisher: Silver Dolphin Books
Non-Fiction
Format: Board Book
I loved THE STORY OF ROCK and THE STORY OF RAP and so I had to purchase the next in the series. I’m giving my sweet little great-nephew all three of these books for his 1st birthday. The fourth in the series, THE STORY OF POP, comes out at the end of July.
Introducing your child to music and reading is one of my top priorities. When our kids were younger, they had books read to them every night and music always playing in the background.
Share the history of country music with this board book. The character illustrations of the various country musicians are spot on. The rhyming scheme gives the reading a musical style. You can even talk about the various instruments on the pages.
The book begins with Hank Williams and Patsy Cline, continues to Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn, and moves through the years to George Strait and Garth Brooks. You can’t forget about the female greats of Dolly Parton and a more recent star, Carrie Underwood. While reading, get out your favorite music app, and play some of these artists’ most popular songs for them and get your child dancing. They may find a new favorite country musician to enjoy!
