There is nothing like the love for your child. For couples who pray and pray for the chance to be parents, the wait and journey can be short and easy or long and difficult. I have many family and friends who found themselves faced with infertility, faced with lost adoptions, and faced with miscarriages and still births. The journey to be a parent can be deeply emotional, but when everything falls into place, you feel like you have won the lottery.
That is just how Leigha Huggins describes it in her first children’s book where she is expressing her deep love for the child that was chosen just for them. I appreciate that she doesn’t specify how the child came to be theirs, which makes this a perfect book gift for ALL new and expecting parents. Whether you are taking the route of adoption, IVF treatments, or got pregnant through months of planning or by surprise, all that matters is there is a baby and you were chosen to be together.
“So believe in happy and honor sad. Try to make good even from bad. Choose good thoughts when you think. Life is only but a wink.“
Huggins shares the deep love and joy she feels for her child and her hopes and dreams for her child. She uses a rhyming scheme to give the book a poetic quality. The illustrations are soft with muted colors and so sweet. You can feel the emotions on the page as you read and look at the illustrations. It will touch your heart if you are a mom and even this mom of teens and adults got a bit weepy. This will be a very special book to share with your child or as a gift for new parents.
