These little National Geographic books are always jam-packed with fun facts in bite-sized amounts to keep kids turning the pages. Photos on every page to go along with nearly every fact will make the learning even more fun.
The facts in this book range from animal facts to facts about space to food facts to Presidents. There was one fact that had me jumping up and running to my bedroom hallway:
A double rainbow is doubly special. The colors on the second rainbow appear in reverse order.
I had no idea and had never noticed it. So, I went to check out the framed print of a photo I took of a double rainbow on one of our vacations and sure enough, the colors are reversed on the second rainbow. How had I never noticed that?
I remembered learning about Carrion Crows when reading a book about birds a few years ago. They are actually quite smart and place nuts in the road so that cars will drive over them and crush them. Then the crows go back and grab the meat. I bet kids will find that to be quite smart of those birds.
One page spread is dedicated to the secret recipes of some of our favorite foods. The recipes are locked down tight so no one can get to them.
This book was a hit when I took it to the elementary building to sub last week. Kids love learning when it is fun and National Geographic knows how to make learning fun. This would make a great Valentine’s Day gift or teacher gift for their classroom.
