Children’s Book Week, established in 1919, is not only a celebration of books, but of connection. It is a vehicle to unite kids and adults with books, authors, and illustrators in order to foster a love of reading. We are inspired by educators, librarians, booksellers, parents, and caregivers and the creative ways they find to connect with kids every day. Because of that, we have created a more engaging Children’s Book Week experience for all in 2021!
All week I’ll be sharing various children’s books with you. For activities and resources for your children, be sure to check out Every Child A Reader’s website, HERE. To see previous years’ Children’s Book Week features, click HERE.
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A FLOWER?
By: Shawn Harris
Published: May 4, 2021
Publisher: Chronicle Books
Fiction
This book explores the beauty of a flower while focusing on your child’s senses and your child’s interaction with nature. By using all five senses, a child can experience a flower from its vivid colors to its fragrance to how it absorbs water and reaches for the sun. With minimal words and bright-colored crayon illustrations, kids will naturally be drawn to the pages.
By connecting the growing of a flower to the growing child, kids will be able to connect their life to nature. Kids can imagine a life inside of a flower, how the bees get nourishment and spread the pollen, and the necessities of sun and rain on the growth and beauty of a flower.
Shawn Harris has combined his artistic talents with his writing talents for an amazing debut children’s picture book that celebrates the life and the beauty of a flower.
Shawn Harris is an artist and musician who lives and works in Half Moon Bay, California. He has illustrated other books, but this is his authorial debut.
