All summer I’ll be sharing books for kids of all ages on topics that will interest them or offer them a new interest to learn about. Most of the time these will be nonfiction books, but sometimes we can learn how to be better people or learn empathy from fictional stories too.
So, I hope you will stay tuned to these posts. They will always have Summer Read-to-Learn in the title and in the tags. It’s so important to prevent that summer slide with our kids, so I hope you can use these books to keep them reading and learning all summer long. See all the posts, HERE.
SO CUTE! PUPPIES
So Cool/So Cute Books
By: Crispin Boyer
Published: February 1, 2022
Publisher: National Geographic Kids
Non-Fiction
It is super hard to resist a cute puppy. This book is full of photographs of all kinds of cute puppies. Along with all the cute photos, there are facts about puppies, how to care for them, and information about how puppies grow.
All kinds of puppies are included in the book from the puppies that stay small forever like a Chihuahua to the puppies who start small and grow quite large in their first two years like Great Danes. It isn’t silly to baby talk to puppies, they actually love it. It is natural for them to chew things and misbehave, similar to a toddler.
If you are thinking about adding a puppy to your household, check out this book for fun photos and facts all about puppies.
SO COOL! DINOS
So Cute/So Cool Books

Publisher: National Geographic Kids
Non-Fiction
Even though dinosaurs no longer roam the earth, they still fascinate kids all the time. All kinds of dinosaurs are featured in this short book. Proper pronunciations are included so kids can learn the right way to say their favorite dinosaur.
Since dinosaurs are reptiles, they are hatched from eggs. The word “dinosaur” actually means terrible lizard. More fact pages about dinosaurs along with realistic illustrations will keep dinosaur fans interested. This smaller-sized book is easy for little hands and encourages kids to read and look at the illustrations on their own.
Crispin Boyer writes about science, history, wildlife, and technology. His 2013 cover story for National Geographic Kids magazine, “Return of the Missing Lynx,” won an Eddie Award for Best Single Article, Youth/Teen. The American Library Association chose his Book “This or That?” as one of 2015’s top picks for reluctant young adult readers.
