When I was approached to be part of the blog tour for Mia and Nattie, I knew I had to say yes because Mia’s story was very similar to my own as a child. My parents also raised sheep and my very first pet was an orphaned lamb I called, Lambie. I bottle-fed her and kept her in a box in our house until she was old enough and big enough to go outside. Lambie stayed on our farm for many years until she passed.
Nattie, the newborn lamb, was left behind by her mother who couldn’t raise her. Mia noticed how small Nattie was and brought her inside. She fed her milk in a bottle and kept her warm, but Nattie really didn’t grow very much. Eventually, Mia’s grandma said it was time for Nattie to go outside. As Nattie adjusted to life on the farm, Grandma felt it was time for Nattie to go on to another farm. But, Mia couldn’t bear to lose Nattie and came up with a plan to keep her with her.
Kids that feel left out or different, children that are smaller than their peers, or kids that need a little extra love will find this story to be really special. Reading this took me back to my own childhood of caring for Lambie and reminded me how special she was to me.
Mia’s love and care for Nattie and her determination to find a way to keep her on the farm teach kids problem-solving and how to fight for something they are passionate about or for someone they love. MIA AND NATTIE: ONE GREAT TEAM! has been awarded The Eric Hoffer Award Grand Prize Short List and Mom’s Choice Awards Honoring Excellence. This simple story sends a positive message to kids about caring for those we love.
