I’m officially declaring today the start of my Summer. It’s been a bit hectic the last few weeks with all the senior activities, graduation, Reagan’s party, and then of course, all the clean-up afterward. So, today, I’m finally ready to Kick Off Summer!

Twenty-two books might seem like a lot for a summer reading list, but I’m being ambitious. Starting today through Labor Day, I’ve got 92 days of summer or 13 weeks. That’s reading a book every four days. It’s a lot but it is doable. I have a nice mix of Kindle books, audiobooks, and physical books as well as fiction and nonfiction. This list also doesn’t include books that will be chosen in my book club for July and August, but I can squeeze those in!

I love creating a list of books I WANT to read over the summer but of course, it isn’t a failure if I don’t get to ALL of them because either way, I was still reading, right? This is a huge list, but it includes books I’m really excited about, so that should be motivation enough to get reading! The porch is ready and my coffee pot is loaded, so let’s get reading! What is on your to-read list for the summer?

My Summer Reading List

My Summer Reading List includes some new titles, some backlist titles from my overflowing bookshelves, and a few that I’ve received for review purposes. I’m excited to get started!

HELLO, SUMMER by Mary Kay Andrews

This has been on my shelf since May of 2020 and I knew I wanted to read it during the summer, so I’m kicking it off with this one. I’ve never read any of her books before so I’m anxious to check out this popular author.

HAVEN POINT by Virginia Hume

This is a family saga set in a Maine beach house during multiple summers. It’s been on my shelf since the summer of 2021 and I feel like it’s a good time to read it.

YOURS TRULY by Abby Jimenez

Every summer needs a good romance and since I already read and loved PART OF YOUR WORLD, I decided to read this newest one.

LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY by Bonnie Garmus

This book is getting all kinds of buzz and is supposed to be hilarious. I hope I love it as much as all the reviews are gushing about it.

THE FAVOR by Adele Griffin

This book publishes in June and is about two women, their unique friendship, and a life-changing decision. I received this one for review and have already started it.

SAVE WHAT’S LEFT by Elizabeth Castellano

A novel set in a beach town has to be read in the summer. This is also supposed to be quite funny and it also publishes in June.

THIS TIME TOMORROW by Emma Straub

My Libby hold says I’m only 3 weeks out from this audiobook. So this will be in my ears this summer. I also have a physical copy so I can dual-read.

SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE and FOSTER by Claire Keegan

Both of these have been raved about on the What Should I Read Next podcast and my Libby audiobook hold for both books is coming up very soon. They are only a 2-hour and 1-hour listen, so I can definitely fit them in.

REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES by Shelby Van Pelt

This has been on my Libby holds since last summer and I’m finally less than 2 weeks out! I can’t wait to read this one!

THE WINNERS by Fredrik Backman

This is a CHUNK of a novel but I loved the first two in the series. I’m hoping my Libby audio hold comes in over the summer and I can dual-read it and get through it a bit faster.

THE GIRL WITH THE LOUDING VOICE by Abi Dare

I chose this for our June book club. It’s been on my shelf for a while and I’ve read so many great reviews for this one. Hoping it is a good book club discussion.

THIS IS HOW I LIED by Heather Gudenkauf

I love Heather’s books even though I don’t usually read mysteries. Her writing and settings are just the right mix of character-driven/plot-driven for me and don’t get too scary. Plus, all her books are set in Iowa.

OUR TOWN by Thornton Wilder

This classic has been on my list and I finally purchased it. I want to read Ann Patchett’s new novel TOM LAKE publishing in August, but I thought I should read OUR TOWN first.

THE PRINCESS by Wendy Holden

This look at the life of Princess Diana piqued my interest. It publishes in August.

MRS. PORTER CALLING by A.J. Pearce

This is the third book in the Emmy Lake Chronicles. I loved the first two DEAR MRS. BIRD and

YOURS CHEERFULLY so I was super excited to receive this one for review. It publishes in August.

THE GALVESTON DIET by Mary Claire Haver

I’m officially in menopause and I have been following Mary Claire Haver on Instagram. I’m interested in learning more about how to change my eating habits to help my menopause symptoms.

WILDLAND SENTINEL by Erika Billenbeck

Since this book is about state parks in Iowa, summer is the perfect time to read it. I grew up just outside of a state park and spent many of my childhood summers in that park.

SHARE YOUR STUFF, I’LL GO FIRST and THE LIFE COUNCIL by Laura Tremaine

Both of these books offer a way to journal and think about the life you have had and the people in them.

BEA AND THE NEW DEAL HORSE by L. M. Elliott

This is a middle-grade novel set during the Depression that I received for review.

FOOD FIGHT by Linda B. Davis

This is also a middle-grade novel about a picky eater entering middle school that I received for review. It publishes in June.

I’d love to hear what’s on your summer reading list!
