Celebrate the peace and mystery of a hot summer night from the eyes of a child. A child wakes on a summer night and ventures outside with their family cat. Soon a dog is barking, a rabbit is twitching, the trees are rustling, and a low cloud is moving across the sky.
With lyrical prose and repetitive questions, kids will be soothed by the words and join in the reading. The illustrations show dark and muted colors of greens, browns, and reds and put you in the season of summer. From the noise of the fans in the house to the dewy grass, I can almost feel summer in our own backyard. It won’t be long until it is here.
ON A SUMMER NIGHT makes for a great bedtime read, but make sure you converse with your young child about going outside alone during the middle of the night.
