If your kids have been interested in the recent return of astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore from the ISS then build on that excitement by reading them books about Space and the Solar System.
Even though this is a board book, it fits the interests of toddlers and younger elementary readers. The pages include a fictional story of Sadie blasting off into space with her cat Buckles alongside factual details about space and the solar system.

Sadie and Buckles take their rocket ship and visit each planet in the Solar System. Starting with the sun, they visit Mercury and Venus and give Earth a wave as they zoom on by. Even though Sadie and Buckles are imagining their trip through the solar system, they are teaching kids as they go. Did you know Pluto has five moons and a huge heart-shaped spot? On that same page, kids can learn about the five recognized dwarf planets and that Pluto is wrapped in a thick layer of ice.
The author uses a rhyming scheme for Sadie’s story which will hold kids’ attention. Sadie will encourage kids to imagine taking their own space journey. A message for the grown-ups is included at the end of the book to thank you for encouraging your little one’s curiosity and wonder. Arezu is a science communicator at NASA and hopes to encourage the curiosity of lifelong learning in kids through this book.
Arezu Sarvestani is a professional writer and science communicator. She’s a first-generation Iranian American immigrant who came to the United States at the age of three. Arezu loves learning, doing crafts, reading on rainy days, and dogs. She works at NASA as a science communicator, and she and her partner (they got engaged at the final launch of NASA’s space shuttle program!) live in San Francisco with their elderly rescue dogs.
Floss Pottage lives on a narrow boat with her partner in the English countryside. She is inspired by the plants and animals she sees along the canal and the walks she enjoys with her dog.
