If your kids like all things gross, this is the book for them. Poop, vomit, blood, boogers, awful odors, slime, mold, and gross animals fill the pages of this book. It’s disgusting and thrilling all at once and kids will not even realize they are learning at the same time.
I found plenty to learn about and also lots that I frankly would have been fine without knowing! In fact, I was pretty intrigued by the moldy corn that is a delicacy in Mexico. I should let all our Iowa farmers know since they have plenty of moldy corn after the Derecho went through here.
There were several pages I just had to skip over because they were too gross for me. The photographs in here are top-quality and absolutely realistic. There aren’t drawings but actual photos of the gross things they are talking about. I imagine the author doing her research as saying, “Kids are going to love this one!” Although, I’m not sure the photographers enjoyed photographing poop or snot or vomit.
I can see upper-elementary-aged kids loving this book and sharing the pages with their friends. I imagine kids trying to one-up each other with something grosser than the previous thing they found on the pages. I would have to agree with the title and recommend that this book NOT be read before dinner
