You know I love farm stories and bedtime stories and this one fits both categories. It has everything you want in a children’s picture book including rhyming prose, animal sounds, gorgeous illustrations, and repetitive text that help children learn in the early stages of reading.

Everyone on the farm is getting ready for bed and they do that by saying their animal sound with a-bye. So the horses say neigh-a-bye and the sheep say baa-a-bye. Each young animal snuggles in close to the mother and father animals for a good night’s sleep. As you turn the pages, you’ll see each of the animals getting ready for bed including the cows, the pigs, the ducks and the chickens. Even the mice are tucked in for the night….although they are sleeping in dad’s boot. They are still cute. Sheep, horses, cats, and dogs are all turning in for the night in their special place on the farm.

The owl watches over the farm as everyone is going to sleep and you see through the farmhouse windows that mom and dad and the kids are getting ready for bed too. The illustrations are beautifully detailed from the sunset on the horizon to the various chickens in the coop. The color scheme is also soothing for bedtime reading. As children see the animals snuggling up to their parents for the night, they will want to do the same.

I think this one is quite lovely and would make an excellent book to gift for a farm family or a family that longs to be back on the farm.
