All summer I’ll be sharing books for kids of all ages on topics that will interest them or offer them a new interest to learn about. Most of the time these will be nonfiction books, but sometimes we can learn from fictional stories too. I frequently learn from books sent during a historical period because usually the fictional story is based on real events.
So, I hope you will stay tuned to these posts. They will always have Summer Read-to-Learn in the title and in the tags. There will be books from some of my favorite publishers like National Geographic, Phaidon, Chronicle Kids, Prestel, and many others.

ULTIMATE SPOTLIGHT: CARS

With interactive features, detailed labels, and accurate illustrations kids will learn all about cars, what makes them run, how to maintain them, and how they are built. Each page includes either a flap to lift, a tab to pull, a page to fold out, or a full-page popup for kids to engage with on the page.
The manufacturing plant page walks kids through the whole process of building a car from the engineer designing the car to the assembly line attaching the parts. Kids will pull tabs to move the car down the line as various pieces of the car are added.
The final page features a full-page popup of race cars at the track with a brief explanation about car racing. None of the information is overwhelming and kids will find just enough to learn and be a bit knowledgeable about how cars work and their role in taking people places. They will love the interactive features best including moving the car through the car wash, moving it up the hydraulic lift to change the tires, or helping the stoplight change colors.
