All summer I’ll be sharing books for kids of all ages on topics that will interest them or offer them a new interest to learn about. Most of the time these will be nonfiction books, but sometimes we can learn from fictional stories too. I frequently learn from books sent during a historical period because usually the fictional story is based on real events.
So, I hope you will stay tuned to these posts. They will always have Summer Read-to-Learn in the title and in the tags. There will be books from some of my favorite publishers like National Geographic, Phaidon, Chronicle Kids, Prestel, and many others.

THE POP-UP GUIDE: CITIES AROUND THE WORLD

Check out some of the biggest cities from all over the world in a unique pop-up book format. From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where kids will see people on the beach and a whole carnival on the street to seeing London, United Kingdom, with the Changing of the Guard happening in front of Buckingham Palace and a double-decker red bus driving down the street, kids will find some of the most fascinating parts of major cities.
Other cities featured in the book include New York City, Istanbul, Cape Town, Paris, Shanghai, Rome, and Sydney. The taxi cabs, the tall buildings, and billboards in New York City take center stage. The pastel-colored homes stand out in Cape Town as well as the yachts on the waterfront. Each page also shares a short paragraph about that city. There will be something to find on the page as well as encouragement to maybe research further into what that city has to offer, for example, kids might want to learn more about the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.
From a city that has 23 million people to the one that Neptune, the god of the sea, watches over, kids will learn and enjoy seeing the views of some of the world’s major cities.
