When our kids were little we loved sharing our favorite music with them whether it was during bath time or in the van. It didn’t matter if it was Frank Sinatra or Motley Crue or Keith Urban, we shared it all with them. Now you can even share the story music with them through this new series of books.

In a rhyming scheme, children are introduced to music from the beginning of the blues to Elvis to the Beatles to Woodstock to the ’80s and even Pearl Jam. From the flashing outfits to some crazy hair, kids will see all different kinds of performers. The book features groups and single performers as well. The illustrations are spot on and quite adorable for each artist.

You could even play a song from the artists as you read their page making this a more fun experience. I think kids will love having this book to look at and read to them and parents will love reading it. It may just encourage parents to reminisce and play a few of their favorite tunes.

THE STORY OF RAP

I’m not as familiar with rap music as I am other musical genres so I found this look into the history of rap to be quite fun. I had no idea it started in 1973 at a house party where DJs mixed up beats.

My first memory of rap music involved Run-DMC and many others during my childhood. But rap music has evolved quite a bit over the years from Snoop Dogg to Jay-Z. Rap is the story of the people and can be quite poetic and powerful.

Parents can talk about the rhyming scheme and how it is similar to rap music in how they tell a story. This is a great addition to this new series of books and will encourage a love of all kinds of music.
