National Geographic is continuing their series, LITTLE KIDS FIRST BIG BOOK with a book all about pets. Even the littlest kids love to learn and look at amazing photography and this book includes the most adorable animal pictures. Parents, this is a full warning that your kids will want each one of these animals as a pet!
From the usual pets of cats, dogs, bunnies, and fish to the not so usual ferrets, birds, snakes, rats, and frogs, all kinds of pets are covered. Each section includes fact boxes, a quick quiz game, and amazing photographs of the cutest animals. Kids will learn how to care for each animal, the type of food it needs, the best place to purchase or adopt, how to train them, and which breed might be the best choice for their living situation. This book even shares which animals would NOT make good pets and are better left to live in the wild.
Since this is written for the youngest of readers, the pages offer large photos as well as large print with easy to read and understand text. Colorful fact bubbles also draw kids attention to the pages. The games at the end of each chapter are fun as well and a good way to check the child’s comprehension. Again, the photography is top-notch, even making the rats and mice look cute enough to adopt!
The end of the book offers parent tips and a glossary of terms. If your family is thinking of adopting a pet, but are not sure which pet might be best for your family, this book offers a great way to start the discussion and good way to rule out certain pets or add some to your list.
